Singapura Cat origin and history
The Singapura cat is a relatively new breed of cat . It only became known in the West in 1975, when the Meadows brought the first specimens from Singapore to the United States. This breed of cat originally comes from Singapore – hence its name. However, it was not bred further – including breeding rules – until the Meadows in the USA.
What does the Singapura look like?
The Singapura cat has a square body shape . Its fur is very short and silky and it lies close to the body. This small cat only reaches a shoulder height of 20 cm and weighs a maximum of 3 kilograms . The body of this breed of cat is nevertheless muscular. The fur color of this cat may only be cream-colored. All warm tones of the basic color ivory are permitted. Lighter shades without thickening are permitted on the belly, chest and inside of the legs. The Singapura’s eyes are large and oval and slightly slanted. In terms of color, light green to hazelnut colors are permitted.
What are the characteristics of the Singapura cat?
The Singapura is actually the ideal indoor cat . Due to its small size and lack of fur, it would not be well protected from cold temperatures or enemies outside – this breed of cat is only half the size of most other cats However, it is still active and curious , which is why the apartment and its activities should be varied. The Singapura is affectionate and gentle, but is usually reserved towards strangers.
Care, Health and Diseases
The Singapura is quite robust, at least when it comes to diseases. This is certainly also the reason why it often lives up to 20 years . There are no diseases that occur frequently in the Singapura. However, a pyruvate kinase deficiency can occur. We recommend a test in this case. This is an enzyme that is involved in the decomposition of sugar in the erythrocytes as part of the metabolism. If there is a lack of these, the cat can become anemic. Otherwise, the same diseases that any domestic cat can suffer from usually occur. However, not frequently.Logically, the Singapura is not well protected from low temperatures, as it only has very thin and silky fur. If the Singapura is allowed to roam freely , we recommend that you keep it indoors at least in autumn and winter.
